Increase System Uptime by Using the SE 554 pH Sensor in Water Recarbonation
Many water treatment plants use a lime/soda ash softening process. Unfortunately, the lime-treated water has a high pH that can cause scaling, which clogs piping and filters. Water recarbonation systems inject CO2 into basin water lowering the pH and reducing deposition.
Digital pH Solution for Water Recarbonation
Controlling the pH adjustment with a digital Memosens® sensor such as the SE 554 gives users better pH control and prevents the conditions that allow for scaling. The SE 554 has several design advantages that make it ideal for this application:
- Alpha pH glass extends sensor life in applications with high ionic activity.
- Solid polymer electrolyte and an “Open” junction reference system are more resistant to buildup. As a result, these features extend the time between required cleaning and calibration.
- The inductive sensor to cable connection is submersible, making it unaffected by moisture and water ingress.
A traditional analog sensor connection is typically not submersible. Many of these connections will corrode in moist environments found in water plants. Other pH sensor manufacturers will “pot” the cable into the sensor to get around this. However, this forces a technician to disconnect and rewire the sensor cable from the transmitter during maintenance.
Built for Waste Water Environments
By using Memosens submersible, inductive sensor connections, operators can connect sensors in a wet environment without concern of failure. In addition, the user can do all calibration and maintenance offline using Memosens technology and a portable analyzer. No more diagnosing problems and calibrating sensors under pressure or adverse field conditions. Better calibration practices ensure a more accurate sensor performance.
The Portavo 908 Multi portable analyzer provides real-time sensor diagnostics in an easy-to-understand radar diagram. Technicians can also view sensor diagnostics, perform calibrations, and troubleshoot in the shop or laboratory. Furthermore, the device can also print calibration certificates and diagnostic data.
The Stratos Evo transmitter is Memosens compatible. Calibration information from Memosens sensors is automatically shared with the transmitter, ensuring the system is ready to measure without any additional steps. In addition, the multi-color display on the Stratos Evo gives the operator diagnostic information at-a-glance and signals if any maintenance is required.
What was this Customer’s Return on Investment?
- Reduced maintenance costs: The design and construction of the SE 554 extend the time between required sensor cleaning, calibration, and replacement.
- Reduced downtime: Pre-calibration of sensors in the shop and quick exchange in the field reduces system downtime and improves sensor performance. Therefore, operations can avoid possible shutdowns due to clogged piping or filters.
- Better record keeping: Lastly, the Portavo 908 Multi portable meter allows the user to capture calibration data and sensor diagnostics. As a result, operators can store the data for future use or print directly from the device to satisfy documentation requirements.
