Raw Water Inlet pH Monitoring

Reduced Operational Costs in Raw Water with Pre-calibrated pH and ORP Memosens Sensors

The raw water inlet is an important point in the water treatment process. Reliable pH and ORP measurements are necessary for proper operation of the facility. Raw water comes from storm drains, rivers, ponds, and lakes and contains a variety of contaminants. The pH and ORP sensors must be able to withstand the process and still provide a reliable measurement.

The Solution

The SE 515 Memosens pH sensor is specifically designed for use in water treatment applications. The sensor uses a ground glass junction, which is resistant to plugging media. Its low price and integration of Memosens technology provide a significant reduction in the overall cost of ownership.
The SE 564 Memosens ORP sensor is also designed to be used where buildup is possible. After chlorine pretreatment of raw water, ORP sensors monitor the effectiveness of the chlorine injection. The SE 564 is able to hold up to the harsh environment while providing an accurate and repeatable measurement.
Raw Water SE 515 ph sensorBecause of the Memosens submersible inductive sensor connection, these pH and ORP electrodes are appropriate for basins, vessels, piping, and flow-through vessels. M4 Knick offers a variety of fittings for any application. Pictured above is the ARF 201 flow-through vessel. Memosens sensors pair easily with several low-cost transmitter options. For a fully functional display and field calibration capability, use the Stratos MS. MemoRail is a basic, low-cost alternative.
Offline calibration and sensor diagnostics can be performed using a Portavo 908 Multi portable analyzer. The Portavo allows technicians to do calibrations and troubleshooting in the shop or lab instead of in the plant. This ensures a more accurate sensor installation.
With pre-calibrated Memosens sensors, the microprocessor in the sensor head stores the calibration data. The technician can simply carry it out to the transmitter, disconnect the existing sensor, and do a “hot-swap” with no additional calibration or configuration. Pre-calibration significantly reduces downtime. Technicians can install Memosens sensors in a matter of minutes, with almost no interruption to the measurement.
The Portavo 908 Multi also has direct printing capability. Therefore, the connected printer can easily output calibration information and sensor diagnostics for accurate record keeping.

What was this Customer’s Return on Investment?

  • Reduced maintenance costs:
The design and construction of the SE 515 and SE 564 significantly lowered maintenance costs and extended sensor life. In addition, offline calibrations reduced troubleshooting time in the field.
  • Reduced downtime:
Pre-calibration of sensors in the shop and quick exchange in the field reduces downtime of the system. This helps to avoid possible upsets downstream in
    the process.
  • Better record keeping:
The Portavo 908 Multi portable meter allows the user to capture calibration data and sensor diagnostics. The portable meter can store the data for future use or print directly from the device to satisfy documentation requirements.
