SensoGate WA 131 M Overview

A complete overview of the SensoGate WA 131 M retractable holder for use with pH, ORP, conductivity, and oxygen sensors.

SensoGate Overview

The version we’ll be reviewing is the WA 131 M or manual drive version. The SensoGate is a unique modular retractable fitting, which you can purchase with a pneumatic drive as well as with a special media adapter for fully automated measurement systems. Wetted components are also available in many different plastic and alloy materials. This retractable fitting provides complete isolation from the process for easy sensor access, without the need for additional components such as ball valves.

Immersion Depth

Let’s go ahead and review the features of our retractable holder. We’ll start from the top and work our way down. The SensoGate requires the use of a 12 mm diameter by 225 mm length sensor, with PG 13.5 male threads. Multiple measurement parameters from pH and ORP, to oxygen and even conductivity are available in this sensor size. A major benefit of the SensoGate retractable holder is that you can order it  in either a short or long immersion length – still utilizing this same 225 mm length sensor. As a result, there is no need to purchase fragile, longer length sensors.

Working our way down, we come to the strain relief bracket. This component helps to relieve strain on the sensor and cable connection. Here we can fix our sensor cable by loosening one of the lugs on the side of the bracket.

Rotary Drive and Safety Lock

Next we have our rotary drive, as well as our safety lock button. This robust retractable fitting can handle up to 10 bar or 145 psi of process pressure, all the while requiring minimal rotational force to insert the sensor. This locking button incorporates a convenient safety feature. To engage the rotary drive and insert it into the process, you must fully install the sensor into the fitting, and press the button in completely. Without the sensor fully installed in the fitting, it will lock the rotary drive out. This ensures that the operator is not potentially exposed to harmful process.

Cleaning and Calibration Chamber

Next, is the cleaning and calibration chamber. The sensor stays inside this chamber when retracted or in the service position. This portion can also be equipped with both an inlet and outlet, for bringing media such as cleaning solution into the chamber. The SensoGate uses a “cyclone cleaning” process, which disperses rinse media 360 degrees around the sensor for a thorough cleaning.

Process Connection

Connected to the cleaning and calibration chamber, is our process connection. The Sensogate is available with many different process connections, sizes, and forms, ranging from 1″ threaded connections up to 4″ flange connections. There are also hygienic versions available with electropolished tri-clamp connections, as well as Ingold and Varivent.

As you can see, the SensoGate retractable holder allows quick and easy access to the sensor while ensuring optimal safety for the operator and maximum uptime of the process. It’s modularity allows for ease of maintenance in the field. Be sure to check out our other videos highlighting maintenance and service on the SensoGate retractable holder by Knick.
